Razlikovanje med muslimani in islamisti

Musliman je vernik, ki živi živ odnos z Osebo, z Bogom, z Alahom.  K okusu kdo je Alah mu pomaga Koran, ki je njihova sveta knjiga. Musliman v odnosu z Bogom skuša sebe izoblikovati v boljšega človeka.

Islamist pa je ideolog, ki sledi spiskom idej, ideologiji. Ne zanima ga ne človek, ne Bog, ne življenje. Zanima ga le, kako bi uresničil svoje iluzije, ideale, tako kot fašist, komunist. Islamist hoče spreminjati družbo, ne sebe. Tu ni govora o odnosu z Bogom. Če bog je, je podrejen njegovi hierarhiji svetoboljnih idej. In, ker spreminjanje sveta v idealen svet ni mogoče na normalen način storiti, bo uporabil nasilje, nestrpnost, zločine, terorizem, smrt stotine nedolžnih, da bi prišel do cilja.

Če bi to razliko primerjali na področju krščanstva bi lahko rekli:

  1. Kristjan, katolik => zanima ga odnos z Bogom, v tem odnosu je živ, ljubljen, kreativen. V raznih življenjskih situacijah se vernik obrača na Boga, ki mu pomaga transformirati odnos do sveta,
  2. krščanski socialist => zanima ga družba, sprememba družbe, nasilna sprememba cele družbe, prerazdeljevanje bogastva, vsiljevanje ideologije, obsedenost z močjo in oblastjo. Razne življenjske situacije tega totalitarca ogrožajo, zato je njegova reakcija na življenje, svet še bolj močno fanatična, zadrta, nasilna. Vsakomur, ki se ne strinja z njegovim sistemom idej, z njegovo ideologijo, ni prizanaša z nasiljem. Ta človek za islamista v trenutku postane sovražnik, izdajalec, notranji ali zunanji sovražnik.
Islamism is, in other words, yet another twentieth-century radical utopian scheme. Like Marxism-Leninism or fascism, it offers a way to control the state, run society, and remake the human being. It is an Islamic-flavored version of totalitarianism. The details, of course, are very different from the preceding versions, but the ultimate purpose is very similar.
Islamism is also a total transformation of traditional Islam; it serves as a vehicle of modernization. The ideology deals with the problems of urban living, of working women and others at the cutting edge, and not the traditional concerns of farmers. As Olivier Roy, the French scholar, puts it, “Rather than a reaction against the modernization of Muslim societies, Islamism is a product of it.” Islamism is not a medieval program but one that responds to the stress and strains of the twentieth century.”
In this, Islamism is a huge change from traditional Islam. One illustration: Whereas traditional Islam’s sacred law is a personal law, a law a Muslim must follow wherever he is, Islamism tries to apply a Western-style geographic law that depends on where one lives. Take the case of Sudan, where traditionally a Christian was perfectly entitled to drink alcohol, for he is a Christian, and Islamic law applies only to Muslims. But the current regime has banned alcohol for every Sudanese. It assumes Islamic law is territorial because that is the way a Western society is run.”
